Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
DuraFlex Chimney Sweep in Atlanta: What to Know First
We provide independent DuraFlex chimney sweep and inspection in Atlanta, typically within 3 to 5 business days of your call. A standard DuraFlex chimney sweep runs between $229 and $389 in the Atlanta market, depending on flue height, creosote stage, and whether you’re scheduling a Level 1 or Level 2 inspection alongside it. We’re not a DuraFlex-authorized service provider, but we work on their liner systems every week, and we’ll tell you exactly what’s in your flue before we quote a repair.
This page is for Atlanta homeowners who have a DuraFlex liner, a DuraFlex-connected appliance, or a DuraFlex cap and want a sweep that won’t void a warranty or turn into a surprise invoice. Call (762) 356-6423 and tell us what you’re seeing. We’ll tell you what it actually means.
How DuraFlex Products Fail – and How We Fix Them
- DuraFlex 316L and 316Ti smooth-wall liners: surface-pitting creosote in Atlanta’s humidity. The 316Ti alloy handles high heat well, but Atlanta’s summer moisture cycle causes creosote to bond tighter to the liner wall than lighter deposits we see in drier states. What owners describe as “a little soot” is often stage-2 creosote near the top third of the flue where exhaust cools. We remove it with poly brushes and rod systems sized to the liner’s exact diameter, never wire brushes, because a scratched 316Ti surface gives future deposits a foothold.
- DuraFlex Pro (single-wall flexible): liner-cement breakdown at the termination. Where the Pro liner meets the chimney crown, the high-temp sealant installed at the original job eventually cracks from UV and rain cycling. Water gets behind it and saturates whatever flue residue is present. During a sweep, we check that junction by hand and recaulk with a high-temperature, waterproof sealant rated for wood-burning temperatures before we call the job done.
- DuraFlex AL (aluminum) liners on gas appliances: soot buildup hiding a larger venting problem. Aluminum liners should not be producing heavy soot, period. When we sweep an AL liner and find black deposits, the appliance is likely burning rich, or the liner is undersized for the BTU load. We flag it, note it on your inspection report, and recommend the specific correction, because sweeping alone won’t stop it from coming back in three months.
- DuraFlex round-top and multi-flue caps: debris-blocked mesh that mimics a draft problem. The cap’s mesh does its job during Atlanta’s fall leaf drop and spring pollen season, but after a year or two it can clog from the top down. Homeowners feel weak draft or smell smoke and assume the flue is blocked, when actually the cap mesh is doing the blocking. Our sweep includes removing, cleaning, and resecuring the cap, not just sweeping under it.
- Corrugated inner-wall ridges on all flexible DuraFlex lines: creosote locks into the ribs. This is the most common DuraFlex-specific finding on our sweeps. Smooth-wall liners wipe cleaner, but the corrugated ridges inside standard DuraFlex flexible sections hold crust that standard brush passes don’t pull. We make a second, slower pass with a poly brush sized up one level and run a follow-up camera inspection to document what actually came out. You see the before and after footage, not just our word for it.

Our DuraFlex Chimney Sweep Process
- 1
You call (762) 356-6423. A live person answers, day or night. We’ll ask what you’re burning, how old the liner is, and whether you’ve noticed odor, smoke, or water staining. Then we’ll schedule a firm window and send you the technician’s name and photo before they arrive.
- 2
The technician arrives and checks ID at the door. The person standing there matches the photo we sent. Every one of our techs is background-checked and identity-verified under the Threshold Standard, and they’re uniformed. Ask to see the badge again if you want.
- 3
We inspect the DuraFlex before we sweep it. A sweep that ignores liner condition is a disservice. We check the liner’s connections, the cap, the crown sealant, and the appliance connector, then we run a camera through if anything looks off. You’ll get photos, not vague reports.
- 4
We sweep to the liner’s exact diameter and alloy. The brush and rod we pull for a Pro liner aren’t what we use on a 316Ti or AL liner. We match tooling to the liner and make a second ridge pass on corrugated sections where creosote locks in.
- 5
We test, then we show you the proof. We verify draft at the appliance, confirm the liner is clear end to end, and walk you through the camera footage if we ran one. If we recommend a repair, you’ll see the reason on screen before we ever hand you a number.

AfterWhat DuraFlex Chimney Sweep Costs in Atlanta
A standard DuraFlex chimney sweep in Atlanta runs $229 to $389 before any repairs. A Level 1 visual inspection is typically included in the sweep; a Level 2 camera inspection adds $125 to $175 if we need to document liner condition for warranty or insurance. Sweeping a two-story flue with heavy stage-2 or stage-3 creosote lands at the top of that range, and harsh chemicals like PCR (poultice creosote remover) add $40 to $90 when needed. If we find cap, crown, or liner damage, you’ll get a separate written quote before any repair starts, and every repair carries our written guarantee and free second visit if it fails. Call (762) 356-6423 for an exact quote on your setup. Estimates are free.
Why Atlanta Homeowners Call Alcott Chimney Atlanta for DuraFlex Work
Because Ruben Castellano walks you through what’s actually inside your flue before a dollar figure crosses the table. He grew up in East Los Angeles, picked up trade fundamentals at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College, and has spent the better part of a decade servicing homes across Atlanta, including older Craftsman-style houses in Grant Park where the masonry keeps him honest. That means we don’t recommend work we can’t show you. Every repair comes with a written guarantee and a free return visit if it fails, and the price you get is the price you’ll pay. We install and service DuraFlex, HeatShield, and Gelco products, so if a liner resurfacing or Gelco repair makes more sense than a sweep alone, we’ll say so. Alcott has been doing this since 2002 under the Threshold Group family of home-service companies.
FAQs
No, a professional sweep by an independent provider doesn’t void a DuraFlex warranty, as long as the work is performed correctly and documented. We use sizing-matched poly brushes rated for flexible liners, never wire brushes or unapproved chemicals, and we provide a written inspection record you can file with the manufacturer. If warranty work is ever needed, our documentation supports the claim.
If you burn wood in a DuraFlex lined fireplace or wood stove, schedule a sweep every year, or every cord of wood, whichever comes first. Atlanta’s humidity accelerates creosote bonding, so annual service catches stage-2 deposits before they harden into stage 3 and require chemical treatment. Gas-only DuraFlex AL liners can typically go every two to three years, provided you have a Level 1 inspection done annually.
Most DuraFlex liner problems we see in Atlanta are repairable: failed sealant at the crown, a corroded cap, a misaligned connection, or localized pinholes in the flexible section. Full replacement typically only becomes necessary with erosion at the welds, separation along the length, or metal fatigue from chimney fires. We’ll show you the camera footage and let you decide, but if it needs replacement, you’ll see exactly why.
A standard DuraFlex sweep on a single-story Atlanta home takes 60 to 90 minutes from truck arrival to final walkthrough. A two-story flue or a heavy-creosote job can run two hours, and a camera inspection adds about 30 minutes on top of the sweep. We’ll give you the time estimate when you call: (762) 356-6423.
Persistent smoke odor after a sweep usually points to the cap or the liner connection, not the flue itself. We check both during every DuraFlex job, but if it shows up weeks later, call us. Our 365-Day Done Right Promise covers our work for a full year, and if a repair we made isn’t holding, we’re back at no charge.
